the heartlanders

completely addicted to this $5 heartlanders CD. wisest investment i've made in a while. current favorites, which are currently providing the soundtrack from my evening on the patio:

"on the roam"
got a lot of people pissed off when i left town
had an awful fever, i had to just get out
gonna go where i gotta go to get tough
learn how to wander away

gonna stay till easter, let all my bad blood out
gonna stay till easter, let all...
stand beside the river, wait for the world to drown
stand beside the river, wait for...

gonna find the secret something & shout it out
when i'm on the roam, yeah
gonna be some people talkin', some angry words
but there's peace on the roam

had to leave the streets & begin my long walk south
take my ok reasons, take off, i'm ok now

let the summer season creep in & slow me down
let the summer season creep in...
all the dogwood trees in bloom on the starlit ground
all the dogwood trees in bloom on...

gonna preach the beauty in songs that i've since found out
when i go on the roam
you gotta leave your ears wide open & shut your mouth
'cause it's all, all around

i'm goin' back where i belong & that's on the roam
goodbye, goodbye
i put my heart back where it goes & get my old clothes
goodbye, goodbye

gonna stay till easter, let all my bad blood out
stand beside the river, wait for the world to drown, now
on the roam
on the roam
on the roam

"aerosols"
(i won't venture the lyrics since i'm not sure i understand all the words, & i can't find them posted online... but worth a listen, just follow the link via the song title.)

"defiance"
...and the crowd speaks out in defiance
singing, "love is all we need"
does the world learn only from violence?
these kids are so naive

i guess that they're the only ones to bring the war home
played with their conditions & shoved it down our throats
down our throats
using all the methods, they've done it before
worked alright in washington but not really in new york

the things i masterminded
they weren't enough to change a thing
so i'm guilty of my defiance
so they're after me, ...

maybe we'll get on a freight train
or maybe we'll get on a freeway
maybe we'll get on a freight train
or maybe we'll get on a freeway
or maybe we'll get on a sea plane
maybe we'll get on a sea plane
maybe we'll get on a sea plane
somewhere nice
yeah, somewhere nice
somewhere nice
oh yeah, somewhere nice

"a tree grows in brooklyn"
...i read "a tree grows in brooklyn"
that's my wife's favorite one
she likes the way that it captures life
in fire escapes
and daddy's comin' home late
up the stairs, distracted by alcohol
and he's singin' his ... song
but friends, he still thinks it's beautiful
but she's just sittin' there in the dark

i am cold
you are cold
let's use our arms to keep each other
safe & warm
in our hearts
watch the day
the sea will take us home

i love the hills, i love the ocean
maine & mexico
life is simply beautiful
if you take your time to rest
eat an oatmeal in the mornin'
lovin' in the afternoon
long conversations & details about the day
sayin' hi to your landlord
goodnight to your friends
into bed once again

i am cold
you are cold
let's use our arms to keep each other
safe & warm
in our hearts
watch the day
the sea will take us...

i am cold
you are cold
let's use our arms to keep each other
safe & warm
it won't be long
watch the day
the sea will take us
sea will take us
sea will take us home

i had a dream i lived in london
sippin' tea at five o'clock...
